An international team led by the University of Tokyo broke the Internet2 Land Speed Record on Dec. 30, then broke it again the next day for good measure, according to the Internet2 research network organization. The wining speed of 9.08 Gbps took place over a 20.000-mile patch and IPv6 was used.
2. A fire started by a homeless man knocked out service between Boston and New York on the experimental Internet2 network last week. An engineer at Indiana University's Global Network Operations Center who works on Internet2 says Level 3 Communications cables used by the network went up in flames.
